FaDu cell line

The FaDu cell line was derived in 1968 from a punch biopsy of a hypopharyngeal tumor removed from a 56 year-old Caucasian male patient from Calcutta, India. FaDu has been found to contain bundles of tonofilaments in the cell cytoplasm and desmosomal regions were prominent at the boundaries of adjacent cells. The cell line doubles approximately every 50 hours. The cell line is susceptible to infection by some RNA- and DNA-containing viruses. In laboratory studies, it has been shown TPP inhibits FaDu carcinoma cell growth by inhibiting mitochondrial respiration and ATP synthesis. It is suggested that cationic phosphonium salts may be used to treat solid tumors without the risk of secondary tumors. It has also been shown that COX-2 inhibitors may suppress proliferation of hypopharyngeal cancer cells and may be useful in combination with chemotherapy for the treatment of hypopharyngeal carcinoma.

Altogen Biosystems

Altogen Biosystems is a life sciences company dedicated to the development, marketing and manufacture of cell type specific transfection reagents. Efficient delivery of DNA and RNA molecules (siRNA, plasmid DNA, mRNA, microRNA) enabled by advanced formulation of reagents and peculiar design of transfection protocols. Altogen Biosystems offers a complete transfection system for a broad range of cell lines and primary cells. Reagents are functionally tested to be reproducible, serum compatible, induce low toxicity, and can be used for co-transfection experiments, and high throughput applications.

Altogen Research Services

Altogen Custom Services provide specialized biotechnology and pharmaceutical services, including - generation of stable cell lines, RNA Interference (RNAi) services, assay development, screening and transfection services. Generation of stably-expressing cancer cell lines and primary cells can be very expensive and time-consuming. Altogen Services offers generation of stable cell lines by transforming the cell line of choice to stably express gene of interest or shRNA-encoding construct. Cloning and shRNA expression services are available.
