Human Mouth Epidermal Carcinoma Cells

KB cells were initially identified as epidermoid carcinoma derived in 1954 from a carcinoma of the nasopharynx of Caucasian man in 1954. It was later determined through DSMZ DNA fingerprinting, isoenzyme analysis, and HeLa marker chromosomes that the KB cell line had been contaminated. Now KB is known to be a subline of the ubiquitous KERATIN-forming tumor cell line HeLa. KB cells have been reported to contain human papillomavirus18 (HPV-18) sequences and have been found to be positive for keratin by immunoperoxidase staining. The KB line is also used as an assay for antineoplastic agents. An endoribonuclease which cleaves tRNA precursor molecules has been partially purified from human KB tissue culture cells. KB cells have also been used by the National Cancer Institute as an antitumor assay for screening plant extracts.

Altogen Biosystems

Altogen Biosystems is a life sciences company dedicated to the development, marketing and manufacture of cell type specific transfection reagents. Efficient delivery of DNA and RNA molecules (siRNA, plasmid DNA, mRNA, microRNA) enabled by advanced formulation of reagents and peculiar design of transfection protocols. Altogen Biosystems offers a complete transfection system for a broad range of cell lines and primary cells. Reagents are functionally tested to be reproducible, serum compatible, induce low toxicity, and can be used for co-transfection experiments, and high throughput applications.

Altogen Research Services

Altogen Custom Services provide specialized pharmaceutical research services, including - generation of stable cell lines, RNA Interference (RNAi) services, assay development, screening and transfection services. Generation of stably-expressing cancer cell lines and primary cells can be very expensive and time-consuming. Altogen Services offers generation of stable cell lines by transforming the cell line of choice to stably express gene of interest or shRNA-encoding construct. Cloning and shRNA expression services are available.
